That's the feeling of when you move a picture frame from the wall, you don't really miss it your just getting accustomed to it not being there but you eventually get over it and forget about it completely.

You join just by joining. You ask the current GM give him your sheet and then he either approves or denies it. And sure you can use a preexisting character.

Sure yu can join, Immortal. Be advised the character sheet is a daunting process and by far the hardest thing a newbie has to overcome.
I'm sure somebody could help you, though. I have the least experience and material, thoug I can answer most of your questions ajd help as needed.
