Nothing is wrong with the video games in themselves, but when they get there own tv in their room and can play non-stop for 8-10 hours, that is just not healthy! In my house, my mom and dad let us only have one TV that is in the living room, only 1-2 hours of the day i spend (at the most) playing Mario Kart or something. People got along for years without the Xbox 260, PS3 or the wii. Kids should be outside enjoying the sunshine and the fresh air instead of sitting for 6 hours in front of a TV.
I think children shouldn't be allowed to play video games
What are your reasons?
Children should be restricted on most things, such as video games, internet, television. Children should be studying more often so that they get good grades & pass classes, they should also get more active so we don't have so much obesity. That's just about it, but 1-4 hours is fine if you're done with your schoolwork/study.
If it gets out of control where you just play video games then yes, there should be some kind of restriction so that they just don't fail all their classes & get obese.

Says the 12 year old who should be 13 in order to legally use this site ;-)
Video games are as much a hobby as anything, albeit vastly varied than others because of the thousands of different games. "If you do too much of X, you are going to lack in Y"-- X being a hobby someone greatly enjoys, while Y is something that is an important aspect in life, such as schooling. Even so, just because video games are a source of fun and entertainment doesn't mean children shouldn't play them, just because they seem addicting. Addicting is a loose stretch. I shouldn't even be using the word. Addicting denotes "a strong craving for" that is "hard to break away from". Is it really? I don't think so. Besides. There isn't a scrap of definitive proof that video games are harmful in any way, contrary to the popular, foolish belief. I will agree that they [video games] take time away from something important that you should be doing.
If there is to be any sort of regulation from this, it should be with the parents of children and only with the parents of children. If the state or State regulates or bans video game playing, they are banning a freedom.
Ooh, more school material: Games ought to be included in schools more, as they have shown to improve the ability to learn in those less skilled with wordy knowledge.
Further, games is part of the new literacies, and teaches kids a lot of different things.
So, perhaps they play too much, but it might very well be educational, even though it is not obvious. Considering the modern age technology, and the culture revolving around it, it might as well be a good way to prepare children to the life they have to live, when they grow up.
How does the old saying go? "All things in moderation." Children need to learn to develop balance in their lives. That said, I wonder how many end up playing video games for hour after hour because their parents just leave them to their own devices, rather than spending quality time with their children, and modelling appropriate behaviour.
One further point: I'm not sure how many people buy into Marc Prensky's "digital natives" and "digital immigrants" argument ([url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_native]) but speaking as someone who's taught high school over a long period of time, it's definitely true that the children of today think and act differently to those of twenty or thirty years ago. Like it or not, today's children are immersed in a digital world, and that has to affect their play, too.
Depending on where you live, what you like, and the level of strict your parents have depends on how often you play video games. Honestly, I do play them alot. Sometimes 8 hours straight. This is because when my mother is at work, I cannot go anywhere, so I've got nothing else to do. However, I still play soccer, participate in Par Core, work out, and hang out with friends. In my opinion, it should be up to everyone to limit themselves. If people are fine with being fat from McDonald's delicious-ness-osity, then let others be fine with staying inside.
um guys, this person Just came here to troll us, I doubt he's even reading this.
Does it matter if we can have a nice discussion out of it? I happen to find this a very interesting part of my field, so I don't mind seeing other people's opinions on the matter? Besides, she is underage, as far as I could see, so she is going to be banned anyway.

Apparently, due to both playing games, and the save-load behaviour (you save at a critical point in the game, and the load it again, should you fail the task) people have become more prone to taking risks in their business life, much like the "wall street" behaviour of risking large sums of money on the hope of gaining even larger amounts of money.
so what if it wasnt for me playing videos all the time throughout my entire life then id probably have like 0 friends who cares if kids play videogames as long as they have fun then it shouldnt matter

AGREE!
and i find the OP hypocritical and trollish (just sayin)
not even sure if this is related but... kids have lost all respect for their peers me being 15 and knowing kids in grades 1-2 that already swear and mouth off to their peers far worse then my generation ever did at their age like if your 30 or older and know some kids in grade 4 think to when you where in that grade did you tell your teacher to * off on a regular basis?
might just be where i live but i doubt that as it's far from some of the worst areas in the world.
RANDOM QUESTION: does this actually relate back to the topic or am i just dazing off to no where
