2) I'm working on getting skills going. I should have the motivation to-- *cough* I mean, the necessary information gathered to implement them soon. ;D

You begin climbing, but the rocks are conniving. What seems like a firm grip may actually be a concealed crack waiting to break upon your grasp. After some toil, you arrive at the peak of the rocky dog pile.
Looking down, you see that the jagged outer appearance is not mimicked in the slightest. All the way back down to the sandy floor, the rocks are smooth and polished. Your eyes greedily trace the visible extent of the wall, searching for impurities, but finding none. It would appear that the rocky wall creates some sort of bowl, if the circular pattern you assume the rocks follow continues for a full circle...
