That's not necessarily a "art" of a game, but whatever, it's Dead Space, take your pick.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent's opening bit got to me, I kept imagining I was hearing and seeing things, I never would have imagined that a video game could make me paranoid.
A big one that always stuck with me is Fallout 3. The first time I put Fallout 3 in, I was pretty scared by everything. Everything was massive, the leveling system was weird and unfamiliar, it was just an intimidating game and it was one of my first M games after years upon years of Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and Viva Pinata.
Nowadays I adore Fallout 3 and it remains one of the most appealing games I've played, but I'll never forget how scared I was the first time I stepped outside the Vault.
Basically everything in the F.E.A.R. series. It's all pretty scary. Pretty mentally scarring for a video game.

I'm not trying to act cool but I have seriously have never got scared in a game since I turned like 10 but I don't play many scary games because they tend to be single player and not very long lasting.
One that I can remember watching by brother play when I was younger was silent hill 3 I think on ps2 where monsters would come out of this fog and at the time I got really scared
When I was younger and played some of the older Resident Evil games, whenever I would go through a corridor or door I'd get scared, because I didn't know if a zombie was going to jump out or not. Also, I remember playing one of them and it had Nemesis follow you around throughout most of the game, that was a little creepy.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent, those monsters scared me a lot. There's no combat in that game either, you have to run and hide or you'll die. Though I got used to it after a while.
Those freaking necromorphs from the Dead Space games are the scariest freaking things ever!
I was playing Dead Space for the first time with the lights off and I was just riding an elevator and the door opened up and two of them charged straight towards me. Scared the crap out of me.
After two zombies popping out of knee-deep water, and a headcrab dropping from exctly where I knew it would, I didn' touch Half-Life 2 in months. And yet, I wonder how I can stand Doom...
The most horrifying moment, though, was in Metroid Prime. After getting the thermal visor, the lights go out. After fighting past a few new enemies, I found the metroids in the storage tubes breaking out, and attacking the space pirates. I was glad when I got out of there.
my reaction to scary things is horibble so i dont play or watch scary things.
for me it was always the music or background of a level when i was a child. i remember having to call my mother to play that level for me or when she wasnt there muting the tv.
examples: the music of the pyramids from quackshoot, the music from ecco the dolphine 2 when sharks first appear. the pyramids from alladins nasiras revenge and that death city from the same game.
lugi`s mansion. most terrifying game ever. why nientendo? when i was 5 i got lugi`s mansion for the gamecube and it freaked me out so i took the disc out and never touched it....until a year later when i picked it up and beat it twice in 2 days.... stupid king boo...
The first time I was ever scared of a video game was when i was a kid it was so funny now that I think about it. You know how back on Mario 64 bowser would laugh? Well everytime I played that game I wouldn't go in to the castle because I heard that scary laugh and I was like OMG.
I know this one is probably typical but On F.E.A.R. I was scared the first time I played that but its not so much of a nerve racker anymore.
Whats freaking scary though is when things pop out of nowhere. And eerie music gets to me.
