Well, I have not seen an Amnesia: The Dark Descent thread in the video game section yet so I though I would start one. This thread is about anything Amnesia, whether it's The Dark Descent, Justine and custom stories.
Questions, tips, facts, pictures, statements and funny stories are welcomed as long as they relate to this topic.
Well to start this thread off i would like to ask a question. Which is scarier: Amnesia the drak descent, or penumbra overture. Obviously Penumbra the black plauge is scarier than either of these two but i would just like to know.
I haven't played Penumbra Overture yet, but I've read the story line. I think Amnesia is the more unnerving of the two. I say that because Amnesia has different and more graphic looking monsters and a more eerie story. I mean, if you look at Daniel"s story, he became manipulated by Alexander into torturing and killing people in gruesome ways. Philip, from Penumbra, has a story where he goes to a mine inside Northern Greenland to search for answers about a mysterious letter he received from his father. I find it creepier in Daniel's case though, especially since he wakes up at the beginning of the game and doesn't know anything besides the fact that a supernatural force is trying to kill him.
I found Amnesia to be an interesting game, good story line, but the horror factor really isn't that high since I found out if you are just never scared in the game then it's alot easier so I just kept calm throughout the whole thing. I was kinda annoyed by the fact that you HAVE to walk into a shadow to see what is in it and when you go into the dark eyes mode the bright places dont look overly bright like they should.
I can definitely understand not being scared. I myself didn't become freaked out by the game especially after watching funny gameplay moments on YouTube. Does anyone have a bag Milky Ways®?
I love Amnesia. My favourite horror/survival game af all time. I've played through the main story twice. I was scared out of my mind the first time around and the second time was still pretty scary.

I don't understand why would you want to keep calm. I got myself very immersed in the game (and I played it at night with the lights out, with headphones ofcourse). It's a lot better experiene that way. There's nothing like reaching a safe place after a long period of confusion and panic, like in the end of the dungeon.
My custom stories so far are "The Game", "Dark Room" (not scary, but silly), and "Abduction". Currently I'm playing through "Emma's Strory" and it's quickly becoming my favourite. I don't like custom stories with cheap jump scares, like bodies flying at you out of nowhere. I prefer good atmosphere and a story that gets scarier as you advance.
