This is breaking news at CNN.com. Russia attacks Georgia (the country). The President of Georgia gives his thoughts and comments about this event in an interview with a CNN corespondent.
I suggest watching the video first and then read the story.
The whole conflict started with Russia attacking civilians. If indeed Russia makes this an official war against Georgia, then for sure it would prove to be Georgia's demise.
they interviewed one georgia civillian and they said tht it was the georgian government that was causing the trouble not the russians. the russians where just helping the civillians.
90% of the South Ossetians have Russian passports. Russia is just protecting its citizens ^^
It is still Georgian sovereign territory. It doesntgive themt he right to invade the Geogian capital. The South Ossetians actually want to be an independant city state from both Russia and Georgia. Its no excuse for he Russians having pushed on into areas where there are no Russian passport holders at all. Never trust the Russians. Ruskis always up to their dirty little tricks.
yeah, Russia it's a big, evil country, Georgia doesn't stand a chance. But most frightening for me is that Russia is near to my country o.0' (i'm Romanian)
Its not really Georgian territory. Stalin gave the Spith Ossetian land to Georgia. (He was Georgian).
Georgia invaded South Ossetia. Russia felt It needed to do just a little more then defending. South Ossetia doesn't have a problem with being Rissia, but of course try prefer to be independent.
What's up with Russia being called evil? They pull up a defensive war while the US invades a few countries and ehh Russia is evil?
The reason they think were weak is because the anti war left wing people have caused are army power to falll. The russians say that they didnt have the supplies in WW2 to liberate warsaw. Crap. We sended them al that stuff and they thought they didnt have the supplies. They signed a treaty with japan and moved the anti japanese supplies to anti germany stockpiles. They didnt have enough supplies and when they attacked berlin, they had 2,500,000 men, 6000 tanks, 41000 big guns, and 7, 500 aircraft. They didnt liberate warsaw because they helped the germans butcher them.

South Ossetia was Georgian sovereign territory. There were separatists South Ossetian rebels in the area causing trouble and so Georgia responded by sending in their army. The Russians used the excuse that they had Russian passports to invade Georgia. Reminiscent of Hitler 'liberating' the Sudetenland claiming he was protecting his own civilians.
What other reason did Russia have other them to protect?
When have the Russians ever done anything out of good natured ideals in the past.
Mmm, they got nothing out of it.
Not true they now control the main Georgian seaports and have claimed many resources. They have also obtained a sphere of influence in Georgia and maybye even new territory if the South Ossetians choose to be absorebed.
Most South Ossetians wanted to leave Georgia.
That may be, however that is not an excuse for the Russians to completely disregard all the international treaties forbidding behaviour and border infringements of this kind.
Well i agree with the fact that mankind does always want more. When you look back over history that seems to be the case. However i think this particular conflict was easily aviodable. Sackashvili was a fool but Russia overeacted. It was typical of how a war starts. Someone said( i cant remember who) that war starting is a series of misjudgements and miscalculations and in my opinion that can certainly be applied here.
