Do you even know how to use one? If so, you're golden, if not, it isn't that easy.
i've fired it on a couple occasions and at my fastest i could probably aim and bring it back 'n fire at about 6 seconds. so much faster to just click a trigger back.

The crowbar would be an all around good choice, it's pretty tough, hard to break, can easily crush a zombie's skull, and can tear off limbs with ease.
Second choice would probably be any mid-ranged gun. A few good shots to the head with a pistol can easily take down a walking corpse.
A bad choice would be the Shotgun, any type of Shotgun is a bad choice against zombies. First of all, they take a long time to reload, second, you need to be at point-blank range to actually do any real damage, and third, recoil.
There's only one thing you need to remember, attacking something in the head will ALWAYS kill it.

Not bad, but heavy. You get tired too quickly with a crowbar. A broad sword is lighter and can hack through bones easily.
Really though, it doesn't matter, because zombies are easily defeated even without weapons.
Not as in thinking power, but as in a distraction. Throw the brain off to the side so the zombie will follow it instead of you, and then run like hell. The hard part is obtaining the brain.

I totally agree with you but the only problem is that some hand guns have a low ammo capacity so if you take out a bunch of zombies (7-12 depending on how large the magazine is) you will have to reload which could be bad cuz then the zombies will swarm you and eat your brains. But the handguns are recoil-loaded so that means you can hit zombies more precise. handguns also have really easy reload systems, press a button the drop the clip out, slide in new clip, done. But you will have to have pre-loaded clips already.
Shotguns are a good close range weapon with sloooooooow reload time so you will easily get swarmed with the undead. Some shotguns like the AA-12 are clip systems but shot too fast for comfort so you can shoot a couple zombies and waste your ammo quickley.
Assalt rifles are reliable, easy to use, clip fed beasts. Especially the Ak-47 and M4 carbine, low(ish) recoil and perfect for those "OMGWTFRWEGONNADOTHEZOMIBESARESWARMINGBUTRTOOFARAWAYFORMYHANDGUNAND/ORKNIFE" moments.
Altogether my all time favorite zombie-blastin guns are The Ray gun and Wunderwaffle (cod: WaW zombie mode)
but seriously i would have a M9 semi-automatic hand gun, a M4 carbine, and a spas-12 (just in case of emergencies)
