10/10 is reserved for genre redefining games only for me, thus, this is my list. I havn't played too many games that I could consider genre redefining, so it's very very short.
Rise of Nations: This game is still considered by many to be one of the best strategy games out there right now. It was made in like 2002 or 2003, it's by far one of the greatest RTS games ever made.
Half-Life: The FPS genre would not be what it is without Half-Life, nuff said. Not to mention it spawned counter strike which is one of the most successful competitive (by competitive, I mean, competitions for money) ever, if not the most successful.
Honorable Mentions:
Battlefield 2: Helped make multiplayer FPS games what they are now. Also, began the um.... "modern combat" craze for FPSes (after gamers were sick of WW2 FPS's, BF2 paved the way for many modern day FPS games which have become rediculously successful).
Half-Life 2: Incredible game by itself for the single-player with a mind boggling campaign, add on that the source engine was then adopted by numerous other games (like CS:S and TF2, both very successful competitive FPS games), physics introduced in the game were unreal.
Company of Heroes: This game is like halfway between RTS and RTT, RTT=real time tactical. It had the notion of taking territories and holding them for resources (which would not have existed if not for Rise of Nations), along with great micro gameplay with units that have special abilities. Not as much base-building as the traditional RTS, but way more microing and tactics.
WHAR IST MW2? Not a 10/10 for me, not even a 9/10. No dedicated servers, no revolutionary new gameplay (well, nothing for the better, getting easy kills since you killed people is counter-intuitive (killstreaks)). This game is the embodiment of casual FPS gaming. Tons of achievements (hey, you shot an enemy from more than 10m away, longshot!), lots of unlockables, perks to customize even though only so few actually matter (scavenger, Sleight of hand, stopping power, cold-blooded, commando, steady aim), same goes for attachments. It just took all the nooby aspects of COD4 and COD WAW and made them to the max.
As you can see, I've played mostly RTS and FPS games. I also play a lot of racing games, used to play a lot of flying games, and play some sports games. But TBH, those are not really serious gaming genres, and thus, I havn't seen any genre redefining games.

I disagree! especially around the parts i bolded, and the parts i bolded! the game is perfectly balanced. those perks are good in most situation but guess what? Stopping power only reduces the amount of bullets to kill by 1. (unless it does 35 damage per bullet (aka ump 45)). knowing this, though, makes all the perks more usefull than fisrt thought. But i still use stopping power.
by the way scrambler actually does suck, no matter how you put it, it is posibble you can use it as bait for prople to find you then your friend pops them from behind, but that is rare.
If anyone wants to get in a COD mechanics debate with me post it here or on my profile. i will gladly debate COD. (another thing that is awesome about it is that you can't stop talking about.
Star Ocean: the second story Harvest Moon: A wonderful Life Civ 1, 2, and rev Elder Scrolls: III & IV Castle Wars Super Contra (NES) Kirby Super Star Mushroom Revolution

Game is perfectly balanced? I suppose you are gonna tell me that the MP5K is just as good as the UMP45, huh? This game is terribly balanced, and for the most part has never had much balance patching (they nerfed akimbo 1887s, and added deviation to the AT4, nothing else though, noobtubes still pwn, akimbog18s still pwn, ACR still has no recoil).
Stopping power requiring one less bullet is really really good if you play with good players. One bullet makes all the difference. Also, what else are you gonna use:
-Lightweight: Sucks unless you're commando knifing, marathon is far more important -Hardline: Sucks since it doesn't help you kill, just helps you get easy kills once you have killed, killstreaks would be banned from competitive play if such a thing existed for MW2 (they were banned from COD4 competitive play) -Cold Blooded: Good perk, already mentioned -Danger Close: Makes explosives have a larger lethal damage area, sounds like stopping power, making weaopns more powerful, except guns are used more
UMP45 with stopping power is not useless. Just not as useful as with other guns.
