Removing double jump would be like removing power-ups in Mario
No. Powerups in Mario are actually made for the game. The double jump itself is an unintentional glitch. If you read through the previous pages you will see. And also read Tart's ginormous post above.
matrix we know its a glitch. but we are talking about the fun factor not about the meant to be question. you cant say "it wasnt meant to be so its bad" because even if one guy thinks its fun (as you can see there are much more) then its still fun for a population. i like tarts idea of many ways in one level but still the double jump ways are really funny and creative and it feels great to discover a new shortcut no one thoughta bout before.
Actually John in one interview says that EP was inspired by Mirrorâs Edge which has the wall jump option, it would be nice if he develops the glitch into feature in the game. If it takes just one stage on uniplayer to show you how to do it, to become an official skill, then would be a shame not doing it. My vote goes for the glitch to stay.
I would personally enjoy it better without it.
If you're talking about fun factor then I must say it's not fun. In my own opinion.
No its in my opinion more fun and I enjoy the game as because of flow-dj's, and more and more people share the same opinion. Including the best of the best like Zero,Blue,... Its a glitch that requires skill (Whatsisface, Tart, Me), it gives u a learning curve and something to grow into (Ghostofzero), it makes new moves and routes hence better and more skillfull runs available (Me),...
If u wonder why I do this look at my last post on page 11; Thx again Matrix ^_^
Most players don't get on the forums though, so we can't get a fair vote. It's only us here.
Noone is trying to have a vote....It was just wezzel saying that he's in favor of keeping it in.
Removing double jump would be like removing power-ups in Mario or whatever game. There's less learning curve for new people yah, but there's nothing to grow into. Who'd play Mario if you were powerless all the time. No uncertainty factor. The games we play would be so close to ties and who trusts the timer that much haha. We'd all scream chained. I wonder if people don't like the double jump or if they'd like it if they knew how to do it.
A very fine point, especially if you consider that Super Mario Bros 3 has aged MUCH better then the original Super Mario Bros and is widely regarded as one of the best 2d games......EVER really(and Mario 3 had like a million powerups while the original had......two).
No. Powerups in Mario are actually made for the game. The double jump itself is an unintentional glitch.
You don't need to repeat it's a glitch in every post because we got the memo on that already. The point is that powerups add depth and content to a game just like double jumping does for Exit Path. It being a glitch or not is irrelevant.
Once again: We're trying to decide if Double Jumping should be removed and IF SO.....on what grounds should it be removed?
Here's what I gathered so far:
Arguments in favor of removal: - Gives Players that use it an unfair advantage - Glitch
Arguments against removal: - Adds depth to the game by opening up new possible routes and ways to improve your time ==> Timing insures that it's a skillful technique - Without it, the game would be too simple and bland ==> Less reason to keep playing the game for a long time.
I already adressed the removal argument in my last post so I won't go into as much detail again (make people aware it exists / maybe integrate it into the game completely).
The other arguments are valid points and need to be disproven before you can make a solid case for removing it.
i like tarts idea of many ways in one level but still the double jump ways are really funny and creative and it feels great to discover a new shortcut no one thoughta bout before.
I never said the two can't coexist. However if the stages are designed in a way so that they offer a good risk/reward system, offer many different routes and don't NEED the double jump....I honestly don't think it would be missed. Still, designing stages with double jumps in mind is perfectly fine too.
