Hey, I'll be starting to post my new art here. I'm a pixel artist, which means I draw with a 1x1 brush, one pixel at a time. Sorta like lo-fi graphics. Retroooo :3

Alright, I think I went a little over-board with the sewage holes, but I hope you pick up what I'm puttin' down. ;D I also added a brick(?) wall for extra defense.

(Keep in mind I drew this in under 5 minutes, just a rough, rough, rough draft of what's going on in my head)

Plagues and stuff. :P

I cannot think of a possible way for me to draw that out, honestly. Any thoughts? But nice ideas.
Could just be like the sewer grates along the roads

I don't think would effectively take out/protect yourself from a tsunami, just sayin'. Also, it will not be big enough to be visible, as you can see from my picture, the playing field is rather zoomed out.

Okay I'll be working on the defense upgrades. If you ever think of some, try to post it in this format:
1st item > upgraded > upgraded > etc.
----
Also, stuff we've already thought of, so there's no duplicate ideas.
Some type of Sewage system, Dome around city, Walls... *thinks*

@Drawing Hm, I was kinda thinking that the sewer grates would be among the city, because we'd have floods instead of tsunamis. :P
Among the city, they'd lower the maximum height of the flood, so there'd be less speed, force, etc. So less damage. Sorry if I'm being confusing.

For depicting the plagues, the newspaper update idea is good, but we could also have small green clouds floating among the ground of the city?

1st item > upgraded > upgraded > etc.

Ooh, I had an idea! The defenses could have seperate upgrade trees. Allow me to explain with the sewers:
/-deeper cistern>deeper cistern>etc.
Sewer-<
\\-more grates>more grates>etc.

So, each branch would have a different purpose! The deeper cistern branch would increase capacity, and more grates would allow faster draining into the cistern! I don't know, does it sound any good?

Jeol, thanks for writing that list up!

Ok, the upgrade trees weren't so good. But anyway, each defense system would have its own tree. For example:

As you can see, we have the Sewer tree. It branches off into two different upgradeable lines. The first would be more grates, for faster draining. Each time you upgrade, you'd unlock the next upgrade for more grates, etc. The same with the cistern depth.

Sorry for triple post.
You can just copy the link into your browser: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/819/upgradet.png/

Oh, duh, it could be as easy as a little notification that pops up on your screen. Silly me. Also, wouldn't the green clouds indicate acid? Oh, maybe plagues and whatnot could be a result of acid rain :O That fits together so well. Maybe there could be different types of acid rain, mostly by color: maybe green, orange, and blue. One has more effect on buildings and deterioration, one could get into water and make people sick, and the other... Iduno. Maybe both. It would be better to have sickness as a result of acid rain, because I don't think random sickness is quite as... Iduno, good. Not in a bad way, but more unnecessary.

Well, I was thinking of just having green acid to deteriorate buildings. I would've pictured rusty corroded holes in the buildings for it, and light green rain. But I suppose your idea is rather interesting.

Oh, okay. so you can only pick one path, or can you do both? Also, make sure you copy the direct link instead of the link itself.

No, you can follow as many as you want. As soon as you buy the sewer, you unlock those two options. From then on, you can upgrade each as many times as you want. For example, you can upgrade cistern depth 5 times, and upgrade grate number only twice. You're never restricted by your choices.

Hmm... How about vents that would suck up the ash? They'd just suck it into big jars/vats/whatever to be disposed of.

Well, how about we have devices on the top of buildings that would suck in the surrounding air and filter it? That might work.

I'm scared this is going to be a super long post... so. Whatever.

Each section is split into a day, and at the beginning or end of the day (whichever), a newspaper is published.

Sounds neat. Also, I'm trying to come up with a name for the town. All I have in mind is 'Doomsville', XD.
I was just thinking flood from all the rain and lightning.

Ohh, I see. Sounds fine, too!
you get a rocket launcher

Sounds nice, but only necessary for those pesky meteors.
So, each branch would have a different purpose!

Confusing, but doable. I've never really been good putting those things together, so I'll see.
Oh, maybe plagues and whatnot could be a result of acid rain

That's exactly what I was thinking inside my mind, heh.
Maybe there could be different types of acid rain, mostly by color: maybe green, orange, and blue.

Ehhh. I don't really want to get into that stuff. It might get confusing, y'know? :s
What do people do to prevent volcanoes?

I was thinking maybe putting a cork in it, lol!
you also have to buy food for them.

Ehh, I had more of a city defense, not worrying about their health or anything, just the buildings and city in general.
like guard towers alerting of their attack.

Sounds awesome. *thumbs up*

Okay, to take a slight break from all this chatting, I drew some pictures and decided to upload them.

Woops, for some reason that last image didn't show up.
If this doesn't work, you can just right click the little question mark and open in new tab to see it.

Yeah, it's a little complex, but I was thinking of having a sort of upgrade tree for each defense... thing.

I was thinking maybe putting a cork in it, lol!

Lol, yeah, we're going to need to come up with something a little better than that. :P

like guard towers alerting of their attack.

This just gave me an idea. Instead of having them just alert attacks, there could also be snipers in the towers that would fire at the wolves! They'd have upgrades for accuracy and damage.

Yeah, I actually like that drawing of the boy with the bird. When I first looked at it, I didn't even recognize it as a drawing.

Also, I love the knots in that tree.

So, for the game, where would the attacks come from? Of course, you'd have to defend upwards (volcanic ash, meteors, etc.), and from at least one horizontal direction (wolves, etc.).

And another thought, why don't we try to incorporate mild humor into the game? I was thinking that for the upgrades, there could be a big box describing it. With the description, we could perhaps give detail while being a little funny, perhaps?

I just realized: Dump ice into it!!

Lol, or maybe snow machines that could blow artificial snow into the cone of the volcano?

Also, nice ideas so far, jeol!

Like you can upgrade the first thing, get it, and then upgrade certain things about it from there. Or you could just upgrade it itself. Do we want a very upgrade-minded game?

1. I was thinking that we could upgrade certain things. For example, my sniper idea. One idea for the accuracy would be upgrading the scopes. Another for damage would be upgrading the bullets.
2. Well, at least I want an upgrade-minded game. Of course, the decisions are up to the Professor.

I was just thinking of how the whole system will deliver. I'm thinking like you roll your mouse over something like a building, click on it, and you can repair it, upgrade it, or destroy it, and how much health it has. There would be a bar at the bottom talking of overall health, your money and maybe supplies, and something else that I forget. I'll post if I remember.

Yeah, that sounds nice. Except, if we have upgrades that don't really fit anywhere, (like antidotes,) we could have a research center for those? Also, for a place where we'd buy the defenses, we could have something like a lumber yard, or a Home Depot or something like that?

Maybe you could name it yourself instead, sort of like 'this is your town, day __' if you saved it. Which should be possible. Hint hint.

Why are your guy's ideas so much better than mine?
there could also be snipers in the towers that would fire at the wolves! They'd have upgrades for accuracy and damage.

Guys, your ideas are getting a little bit out of hand, please try to keep it simple...

Well first, you know I wouldn't be able to actually use Home Depot, because there would be terrible copyright problems, you know. But I like the idea.

Sorry, I just love upgrades. :|

I know, I was just using Home Depot as an example. We could have our own store like that, named what we wanted.
