I present you with the first of many very long Sims posts.
Sims 2 was the best one by far.
Definitely. I played that one religiously for five years. The building tools were simple enough to use so that the builder could build anything he wished without difficulty, but diverse enough so that endless building possibilities were possible.
I had more fun building my houses and community lots than I actually did playing with my Sims.
I loved the nightclub expansion
That one was a life-saver. With the option to create downtown neighborhoods, I no longer had to worry about my neighborhoods filling up too quickly. I also could not stand calling cabs everywhere I went, so the vehicles were also a godsend.
Although, in terms of music, I thought Open For Business was the best in that field. Pets also had some pretty good tunes.
I rarely cheat myself, but putting Sims on top of each other using moveobjects can get some extremely funny results.
In the original Sims, I used this cheat mainly to rejuvenate my Sims. This can be accomplished by picking up the Sim(s) you wish to rejuvenate and then deleting them. If they've earned skills since the last time you saved your game, you have to save it again in order to keep those skills. After you delete the Sim, its needs become completely reset.
In the Sims 2, this trick became obsolete. You could still rejuvenate Sims by deleting them, but in order for them to reappear, you had to save your game, exit to your neighborhood and reenter the household before they'd reappear. In that same amount of time, you could easily fulfill your Sims needs the "right" way and you wouldn't have to sit through any loading screens.
I haven't yet tried this technique in the Sims 3. Moodlets are much easier to manipulate.
I had a room with nothing in it - no windows, no doors, no furniture; no way or reason for sims to get in. I don't remember why I built it, but somehow each and every sim found its way into that room, and then once inside they couldn't get out.
Sounds like a Mac glitch. I've experienced plenty of those on my Mac computer (I didn't always play on the PC). I've played all three Sims chapters on the Mac and not one of them was anywhere near glitch-free.
One mac-exclusive glitch that comes to mind is one from the Sims 2, which caused the "Naughty Pine" siding to show up blue instead of the light-tan brown it's supposed to be. It may not sound like much, but as a builder, that was very aggravating, seeing as I used that siding often in the PC version.
In the Sims 3, it was more of a responsiveness issue. In rare but not unique cases, Sims would refuse to come home or respond in some other way and eventually die of starvation.
There are a few questionable things in the Sims though.
Go ahead, shoot me with a question. I'll try my best to give you an answer. I've played all three games enough to basically be a walking FAQ for all of them.
I feel like I wrote that whole post as a memoir more so than as a set of game tips.
