So earlier, I was wondering to myself why there was no official place to discuss this ineffable game series. I then wondered, could it be because the community is completely void of Sims players of any kind?

I then eliminated that conclusion, seeing as I'm here and I'm a Sims player of all kinds. Having drawn that new conclusion, it then hit me that I could not be the only one of my kind; that there must be more Simaholics lurking about the AG forums.

So come forth, fellow plum-bob worshipers! Bring all your discussion of Sims 1, 2, and 3 to the table!

I have Sims 2 and all of the expansion packs and I can officially say I am addicted to it. I love building houses in it, it is some of the most fun ive ever had playing a PC game. I was also wondering for you guys, what is the best expansion pack that you have gotten from Sims?

Ooh... that is a toughie! I'm probably going to have to go with Ambitions, only because there was such an enormous variety of things your Sims could do! More so than any other expansion pack in my experience.

I'm not really into the expansion packs, mostly because there is already so much to do in the base game. It's almost overwhelming O.O So, I'm always content with just playing the base game.

Maybe in the Sims 4 they'll have giant apartment complexes that can hold dozens of households as well as community venues... now THAT would be a game worth playing!

Once they combine the Sims series with the Sim City series, my life will be complete.

what is the best expansion pack that you have gotten from Sims?

I could not name just one. There are too many great ones to pick a favorite.

Important Sims 2 Expansion Packs:

Nightlife is essential to the series because without it, your poor Sims would be at the mercy of the cab and they wouldn't be able to drive their own cars. It's also the first expansion where you can really expand your neighborhood.

Open For Business is also important because you can purchase and run community lots. It also gives the business owner perks, like being able to call anyone in the neighborhood and getting a starting boost to every relationship. And, perhaps the most important aspect of this expansion is that Sims can finally work for other Sims.

Seasons is significant because without it, the weather never changes and it feels to some people as if their Sims are frozen in time. It also introduces gardening to the game, which can be a staple of Sim life in the Sims 3.

Apartment Life is the expansion pack that they waited too long to make. Had they come out with this one before the others instead of dead last, apartments would have been available to live in throughout the series. I would have chosen this one as the most important had they not ended the series with it.

Notable Sims 3 Expansion Packs:

Ambitions is by far the most important expansion in the Sims 3 so far. You can do much more with it than with any other expansion from any of the three games. Since the Sims 3 base game is already so elaborately made, Ambitions is the only expansion that has matched what the base game alone can do.

Fast Lane is important if you're one of those people, like me, who gives every one of your Sims a vehicle. I fill up my neighborhoods fairly quickly, and I like to see diversity in the vehicles they drive. The selection the base game gives is inadequate for how I play the game, and Ambitions only adds one vehicle, so without Fast Lane, your streets are not going to be all that interesting.

That would be amazing... but think of how long it would take every single little detail to load!

We'll have to wait until gaming technology is much more advanced..

Nightlife is essential to the series because without it, your poor Sims would be at the mercy of the cab and they wouldn't be able to drive their own cars.

Since the cab is instant in the Sims 3, I always forget how terrible the Sims 2 cab was... the incessant beeping was the worst part about it!

So I agree, Nightlife did create quite a few new necessary freedoms for Sims!

Open For Business is also important because you can purchase and run community lots.

True, and yet for some reason they still haven't come out with a Sims 3 expansion pack that allows you to do just this... you can purchase community lots in the Sims 3, but you can't do very much from there!

Apartment Life is the expansion pack that they waited too long to make.

That's the only Sims 2 expansion pack I actually miss while playing the Sims 3 because, as you previously stated, you can't move multiple households into one apartment complex in Late Night! I was impressed with Apartment Life, so I thought Late Night would be even better, but it turned out to be an utter disappointment!

What the Sims 3 is capable of was unheard of 9 years prior when the original Sims was released. My guess is they'll have a game like this by 2018. If they don't, they'll be hearing from me. I've been waiting nearly a decade for a game like this to come out.

the cab is instant in the Sims 3

Cabs are for foreigners.

And what I mean by that is, the only Sims that take cabs in my neighborhoods are the Sims that visit from other Sim countries. I give all of my Sims cars, or bicycles if I don't like them as much.

The consignment shop is still as close as it gets for now, but I'm confident that there will be an Open For Business-esque expansion in the near-future. So far, each Sims 3 expansion has reflected upon a Sims 2 expansion, and the only ones left to imitate are Open For Business, Seasons and University. Seeing how University operates on the branch neighborhood system and Seasons would cause incredible lag if it were to rain or snow throughout an entire neighborhood at once, an Open For Business-like expansion will probably be the next one they release (after the ones that have already been announced but have not yet been released).

That it was. So much so that I wasn't the least bit sad when it stopped working on my computer.

That sounds like a long time regardless of how awesome the game may be... if I have to wait that long for a new Sims game, it better be PERFECT!

It's also possible that a real "Sims Online"-type game is in development, but so far I haven't heard anything about it, so I have no reason to believe yet other than faith that it's true...

Seeing how University operates on the branch neighborhood system

Branch neighborhoods are SO Sims 2... =D

Instead of using that old outdated system, why not just expand the map by adding designated areas for colleges, etc...? It would increase the lag factor by a tad, but it would also allow college students and regular sims to intermingle with one another without leaving the base neighborhood!

The Sims Online did exist for a while, but it was shut down in 2008. There have been others, including The Sims Social, but that's only for Facebook.

However, a new Sim City game is scheduled for 2013 release, and online play will be included. Still not quite a combination with the Sims, but still good news nonetheless.

The Sims crew is always a step ahead, so I'm sure they've thought of something along those lines by now. You never know, they may even combine the existing base neighborhoods into one at some point.

Aww man... that sounds awesome and I missed it!

But my faith in the EA team tells me that a new, better online Sims game is in development, and I'm willing to wait as long as it may take to perfect it!

But I'm not counting on its existence either, because I don't want to get my hopes up just in case what my heart tells me is not true... xP

However, a new Sim City game is scheduled for 2013 release

That is good news! It's about time they came out with a new one... the last installment got too much hype and it turned out to not be so great after all! I'm hoping this new one will be a major improvement from Societies! =P

=O

YES! That would be amazing!

The gameplay probably wasn't much different from the original Sims, except it was online. It most likely did have plenty of different features, but I can't imagine it being too much less primitive than the original Sims.

That game lagged the hell out of my computer so much I got frustrated with it and never played it again. I'm almost sure the new Sim City will be better, because I don't think it could be any worse.

Still, it would have been awesome at the time! Had I played it before knowing what the Sims 2 was capable of, I would have thought it was the coolest game in the world!
