So earlier, I was wondering to myself why there was no official place to discuss this ineffable game series. I then wondered, could it be because the community is completely void of Sims players of any kind?

I then eliminated that conclusion, seeing as I'm here and I'm a Sims player of all kinds. Having drawn that new conclusion, it then hit me that I could not be the only one of my kind; that there must be more Simaholics lurking about the AG forums.

So come forth, fellow plum-bob worshipers! Bring all your discussion of Sims 1, 2, and 3 to the table!

i just love the sims. i played all from 1 to 3. at first i love the sims 1, but when 2 came out, i realized that it was really bad. because children dont even grow up, and really lacks on features, but 2 and 3, they are the best! i have 3 today, and i just love it!

Did you play the original Sims? The transition between two generations was always the hardest part for me because I was so used to the previous one, but after a few days I got used to the new one.

no i havnt.

That's incredible, considering that the game has only been out for eight years.

then 8 instead of 10. i remember it happened in elementary which means it was 10-7 years ago. and i remember i got it when it just came out.

Did you notice that in the original Sims, you could have a household consisting entirely of children?

I believe that was also the last time child Sims could die. In v2, if they came close or something happened to the parents, they would just get taken away by the social worker. I guess too many people didn't like the idea of child Sims dying.

"Shall we have a baby?"

Yeah. Because that's totally how babies are made.

no i havnt.

Oh well. It's not for everyone.

Yeah, I didn't get how the baby could just appear there out of nowhere... that takes the fun part out of having the baby in the first place!

And it wasn't even a baby... it was just a bassinet with a blanket over it! Talk about cheap...

There was no reason why that game had to be rated T. There's nothing in there that a child couldn't handle.

I remember being so bored at certain points with the first Sims that I would take lots of pictures of my Sims performing everyday tasks and then scroll through the albums as if it were actually interesting.

What I always forget about is the rotation scheme in that Sims. Only four different angles. Forget cheap, that's just primitive.

Although I still play RCT2 (do I smell a new thread coming?) and I actually prefer the four-angle rotation scheme in that particular game. It just didn't work in the Sims.

Which is why I think the third RCT installment is better! =P

Being limited in angle and distance severely limits the gameplay... blind spots get created, so in the first two RCT games you have to often make certain things invisible in order to see other things. Unfortunately, that can't be done in the Sims 1! There are 16 different viewing points and no real way to improve them... not bad for a game from 2000, but too limiting for my tastes!

Alright, well I'll make a RCT thread sooner or later so we can further this discussion.

Yes, in the Sims the four-angle rotation was a bit of a pain, but the one advantage it did hold was that you could memorize the exact layout of your house much more quickly. Which is beneficial if you plan to play with a large household for an indefinite amount of time.

For games like Sim City 4, that rotation scheme made the whole game less overwhelming, so it really does depend on the content of the game, at least in my experience.

Sims has always been one of my favorite games because there is no real objective and you are free to do whatever you like.
Sims 3 is the best because of the amazing graphics and the new simpoints idea, plus the store is great to.

I didn't like the limited view scheme in the Sims or any other game that used it because it didn't allow you to zoom in past a certain given point! I can't speak for the general Sims-RCT-playing population, but it's easier for me if I can see certain things up close!

I wish they allowed you to build past 6 stories in the Sims 2 and 3... I don't know what I would do with tall buildings anyway, but I'd like to have the option to build them!

To be fair, there really wasn't a reason to in the original Sims. It wasn't until the Sims 2 that there were things detailed enough to be worth zooming into. So I guess the problem fixed itself, almost.

I got over that fairly quickly. What I still haven't gotten over is that in the Sims 2 Apartment Life and the Sims 3 Late Night, there's no way to design your own apartment buildings. This is especially annoying in Apartment Life because all but one of the available apartment choices don't come with driveways, so your Sims can't drive anywhere; they have to take the stupid cab.

This isn't really a problem in Late Night because although there are also no parking spaces in apartment buildings, you can put a temporary one in your apartment living room, buy a car, put it in your inventory, sell the parking space and put your furniture back where it was. But there's an equally irritating problem in this expansion pack: you can't have more than one household in an apartment complex. Now come on, does that not ruin the entire purpose of having the option to move Sims into an apartment complex?

The Sims is the best game I've ever played! The only reason I started gaming was because of the sims!

Which one, the first one? With game quality the way it is, that must have been a long time ago.

I don't usually play the Sims 3, but when i do, i haven't saved for 3 hours, and then i wonder why the lag started, and then it crashs, dang it.

Yes, that does ruin the point! And those big buildings usually take up even MORE ground space than regular houses!

Maybe in the Sims 4 they'll have giant apartment complexes that can hold dozens of households as well as community venues... now THAT would be a game worth playing! =D
