Unless your desktop has a built-in printer that's a weird argument... (Not the bigger screen part, the printer part.)

Wrong argument. Just ignore it, my daily dose of stupidity is attacking, I advise everyone to take cover. *Sigh*

Well it seems that the majority perfer a desktop. But, lets say theoratically that the laptop can perform the same functions as a desktop. Would that change your opinion?

Well, I would say that it depends on your situation. Both a laptop and a desktop have their pro's and cons. I have both a laptop and a desktop pc and it works out great for me. I use my laptop for internet surfing and flash games. I use my desktop for gaming and as my media center.

I like desktops but you can do almost anything on a laptop that you can do on a desktop. Umm, hard decision. It all boils down to, "Do you want a portable or not?". I guess I'll go with laptop.

I'll have to say a laptop. even though I don't have one, my friend does and the are FRIGGEN AWESOME. You can carry them anywhere, and do anything. Also, with iomproved technologies these days the amount of hard drive is growing tremedously, while the laptop is getting smaller.

I really don't care, as long as I have a computer. Right now I have a desktop and it works fine, but I don't really prefer it over anything else.

I'm running on a laptop and I enjoy the wireless connection. But I can't play games like Assasins Creed. That is the disadvantage for me on a laptop that I wish It could do.

I prefer a laptop, it works way better than my desktop computer.. This is why I argue with my siblings to get it. But laptop because you can bring it anywhere, but sometimes it makes me lose a game because of its stupid touchpad mouse!

My laptop is perfectly fine, and it's portable.
I don't see the difference in computer software in desktops & laptops, but outside of that a laptop is much better.

No, I don't think so. Laptops already can perform most of the functions that you can with a desktop. You can have a larger screen, bigger/different keyboard & mouse, all kinds of peripherals, multiple screens..

For some of those features you need a docking station, but it is possible. The only things that they lack in is the performance angle.

I just don't ever use a computer in a setting where I'm out and about. If I'm at work, I have a work PC, I don't need to use it on the train, a bus, in a car, in public at a coffee house... if I'm at a coffee house I'm there to drink coffee and talk to friends, not browse the internet - and that's all that I would wind up using the mobility for.

As for the idea of being able to 'work' on the laptop anywhere:

One of the important key notes of improving study habits is to provide your brain with an association for concentrating & doing work. If you study in the kitchen, you'll wind up talking to family members & eating. If you study in bed, you'll wind up falling asleep. If you study in front of the TV... well, you'll watch TV. It's thought that creating a 'study area' helps to get you to focus; and, if you lose focus while in your study area, you are taught to take a break and go elsewhere.

I'm using a similar 'associative' system to fix my sleeping disorder, to significant effect.

I would think the same principles would apply to doing work on your laptop around the house. As for not doing work... it's not difficult to move into another room to use my PC. It's nice, out of the way, and peaceful. I wouldn't switch if a laptop could game like my rig can game.

I'd say desktop is better because you can do a lot of gaming without much lag, my laptop is pretty slow for gaming.

The only things laptops are useful for in my opinion are for travel. If you're just sitting around at home, you may as well go with a desktop, as they're less expensive, typically live longer, and pack more power.

Well, unless you just surf the web and don't actually DO anything with your computer. Then I guess a cheap laptop for comfort and ease of use may be the superior choice.
