i really don't know on one side of the fence
if we kill them they get away with the crimes they have committed scott free, no punishment

then if we keep them in jail we use up tax payer money and they have a chance to be released on bail just waiting to kill again

what are your thoughts??

Personally, I think life in jail is far worse than dying, so I prefer the thought of keeping the buggers in jail for life. Also, it gives the chance that if the person is innocent, more evidence may be found to let them free. Although I am not hugely religious, many people are, and there is the argument that the person killing the criminal will go to hell for killing the criminal, as well. Id rather put more money into taxes to punish those who deserve it, than kill them and let their suffering end that much more quickly.

i think they should have 10years hard labour because to give em a second chance u know they could of been drunk when they did it or somthing but if you keep them they can do all the crap that we dont want to do and if they murder again then its life in prison

@haslife
When you said they could have been drunk when they did it, i think that being drunk is no acception because people should have self control

If they kept murderers in jail for their whole lifetime, that would become costly after a while! For stealing the life of a person, i'd say it should be an automatic excecution.

But if it was partially the suspect's fault, then i'd jsut keep them in jail a while, in other words; If they kill someone for no reason then they should be immediately exccuted. But if the cause of the kill was the murderer's and the victim's fault, then i'd only hold them in jail

I'm not so sure that it isn't cheaper to keep them alive for life, considering the expenses involved in the appeals process (U.S.).

I beleive that if you kill someone, it should be a death sentence depending on the situation. I keep hearing numbers. 5 years per murder? 1 year?! If someone kills somebody that I care for I want that SOB dead. You can not measure how many years in prison each life is worth.

I think that murderers should get sentenced to death. Yes they may not suffer, but our taxes would not be as high. When we keep a criminal in prison for long enough, it becomes their life and it becomes nothing less than another average day. Not only does it become just another average day but it drains further into the average person's life by making them pay more taxes.

Some of us beleives that if we kill a murderer, then we are just as wrong as them. I would much rather kill a murderer and kill just as many murderers as the murderer himself, than let him be free to killan innocent life again or let him start a new life being taken care of in prison. Is it any more wrong to kill someone than to let someone die? (this is starting to sound like another thread I know of.)

Now I shall get to that "God will let people die when he wishes for them too." I am sorry if I offend some people, but this message is either the biggest load I have ever heard or its meaning is taken too literally.

If we were to say that this meant that God kills by making accidents happen to people or by natural causes, this is greatly thrown aside when you take a look at history and you see how many wars have been started by the &quoteople of God." Because soo many wars are results from Catholic/Christain leaders, this message is very hypicritical , or it is a message which is fairly new (which I beleive it was the first one myself).

Another way of looking at the same message is that when somebody kills another person, God has sent that person to kill them. So if someone killed a murderer, God sent him to kill the murderer. I remember when this guy got sued for saving this kid from choking, his parrents were letting him choke because they beleived that if the kid choked to death it was in God's will but were blind to see that God sent the man to save their sun. This is simular to how people inturpet "God kills when he beleives is the time."

I basicly beleive that instead of making a murderer suffer in prison to make him learn or to suffer, they should be sentenced to death (or not, of course it depends on the situation) so that they are no longer a weight on society's shoulders.

I know I am going to sound like a horrible person, but oh well. I am used to it.

I do not really see the point in having such an extreme reaction to someone being killed by another person. It is not as if someone really wanted to kill someone that the punishment would deter them. And is most cases, trying to get a death sentence for a murderer is not that easy unless they were a serial killer. So a lot of people get a life sentence. That is great, right? I mean, we totally got them.

Nope, they still got you and are killing the country slowly.

The average cost to per yer for a prisoner is $22,000. Let's assume that the person was 20 when they killed someone and died of natural causes at age 75. That is a total of $1,210,000 for one person. And how many people are serving life sentences in America? 127,677. Total: $154,489,170,000 for every one of them to serve 50 years in jail. Or $3,089,783,400 a year in total. And these statistics are a little old.

So either way, it is pointless in a way to try and punish these people. There are a lot more people out there, in the end it does not matter. And if we do 'get' them, we are still paying through the nose to 'give them what they deserve."

Haha, thank you and you are welcome. ^_^

I do not think people really realize how much it costs to keep someone locked up. And those numbers I crunched are only for people with a life sentence. Add in all the other people and the yearly average is roughly $60,000,000,000. Splendid.

Cost reduction strategy:

Find an island that is far out in the ocean (St. Helena?). Make it a farming commune. All life sentence prisoners are sent there, given a basic intro to farming practices and animal husbandry, and left there under minor supervision. They make their own food, and you only need a handful of keepers! Problem Solved.

Thoughts?

that is actully how some people think australia's community was started, in the 17 or 18th centruy british prisons were so full, they shipped all the prisoners to aurstralia and let them fend for themselves

Have you all seen "A clockwork orange"? Great, but disturbing movie. The prison system SHOULD be about detering crime and rehabilitating people, not a lifetime timeout. If you have shown that you are a danger to society and will not reform, then I'm sorry you had your chance, you chose to die. End of story.
