So November is coming around rather soon...anyone thinking of participating in this crazy excuse for becoming a social recluse?
If you haven't heard of it before, NaNoWriMo involves writing a fifty thousand word novel in November. It's simple really, just type 1667 words per day for thirty days, and you'll have finished your first novel.
I've done it the past three years (completed past two) and recommend it to anyone who enjoys writing. It is a really good way to force yourself to write and greatly improve your writing skills.
@Scientific essays for NaNo: Technically it needs to be fiction, but the forums does have a "NaNo rebel" section for people who, well, isn't trying to write a novel.
@Acmed's chapter: It is a little sad to ask for edits during a NaNo, people. If you are taking time to make stuff look good, you are not spending time writing. Editing is for December. Heck, my own writing looks like thio when I try and wrtien sme naNo.
Personally I am at a measly 19k, I don't have time to write, I didn't write yesterday, and I am going to fail one of my classes if I don't get the paper done by Friday. NaNo really is put on a sucky month for anyone in school, high school, college or university.
Acmed your tenses seem to randomly shift halfway through the first chapter, past to present, also I suggest you spread the description out over a few pages, rather than one large block, it makes for a somewhat drab introduction which doesn't act as an effective hook, leading to a bored reader.
I would do that, if I didn't have 30 days to finish it.

So my book can be a work of crap and still make it in?

Too right, it was right during my exams when I was in uni, just like everybody else :< This said it's nothing on what I'm up against now.
Hm. Maybe if I get like 20000 words written this weekend I'll be okay... I spent the last week on a slow grind with this last chapter, it's a really important exposition chapter and god was it hard to write D:
ahhhhhhhhhhhhh you bad person Nicho, rubbing my face in it.
Okay, managed another chapter and 3000 words today. Starting to move along, just a little, just a little more. I can't wait until I get to the next action sceeeeeeeeeeeeeene~
(Just another 2000 words or so to go. Must get there by Sunday or I'll go insane!)
Ah, Strop and I are on the same page, it seems. I also have an up-tp-2000-over-the-weekend recovery plan. I also just figured out I could bang out 1000 words in an hour with dialogue and maybe some action.
See, I just got to the point where my novel has more than one character. So far, it needs more philosophy. Been talking about math and physics too much. But two characters helps. I'll introduce a third in another couple thousand words.
Shame this month is the month of my research paper, midterms, finals studying, and most important: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
I am going to while my time away writing merit-worthy comments. Zoph seems to be pedantic about them being called merit worthy comments not merits. Hmmph.
