I'm surpriesed no one has posted a topic about thisbut anyway, back on topic...

What are your thought's on obescety (please, someone correct my spelling)? In all honesty I don't see how to get fat. I've actually tried to get fatter, but I guess all the running I do makes me naturally skinny. Do you think too many people in the US are becoming fat? In my opinion, I'd say yes, but feel free to share your thoughts.

Correctly spelled: Obesity anyhow, the US IS getting fatter, because of 1 thing, Mickey D's

Yes fast food is the problem....2 out of 3 people age 20+ in the US are overweight...problem? eating out. nutritionists say that fatty foods are addicting and that is why people are overweight.

I read that as obscenity lol. Anyway, what's the discussion? Lots of people are overweight. Not a big surprise there. Lots of people are underweight too. Just a fact of life.

Fast food is definitely the problem...we had a German exchange student and he said that they viewed Americans as ppl who eat MC Donald and get fat

Percentage of Americans who are obese, defined as having a BMI over 30.
Obtained from here. Visit to see slide show of obesity rates increasing.

The sad thing is that anyone with a BMI over 25 is overweight which would include many more people.

Over recent years there has been a significantly higher portion of overweight Americans. I would attribute this to two things: diets with high levels of simple sugars, high in fats, an increasing amount of transitive fats (your body doesn't have the enzymes to break them down so that which is not lost through excrement is slowly accumulated), and higher portion size; the second factor is an increasingly sedentary lifestyle, whereas previously humans work on farms and doing hard physical labor in factories we are increasingly working in office jobs with little to no physical exertion, modern conveniences decrease our need to exercise and we accumulate fat.

Actually, daswift, I see where you're going. I also live in one of those states, Alabama. Man we eat good down here, and there are alot of obese people, and I did notice that in church, there were probably 3 or 4 women that needed help to walk because of their size.

I've noticed that too. It always makes me laugh when I see a bumper sticker that says "Republicans are better in bed." I'm trying to decide why this statistic is though. Not to be sexist, but women naturally have more body fat, but why the right-wing christian? Although seeing as fundamentalists are almost always conservative these two are probably related.

Eh, people need to be alerted to the health risks of obesity. When presented with life-threatening situations, people tend to be more cautious.

Not to mention, exercise shouldn't be done just to keep weight off; people should partake in it because it's fun, and it'll keep you healthier in the long run.

@necromancer, its just an observation, im not trying to hate on the religion or anything it just seems like its how they live their lives, its ironic dontcha think? the bible kinda tries to teach you how to keep your self at least a little healthier, yet this kind of thing happens

@daswiftarrow
I'm not trying to attack religion either; I observe this too and also think it is ironic.

I think they should destroy all McDonalds in the world. The only thing I actuallylike there is the classic chicken sandwich thing, and I don't like it much. People could easily just go to Wendys and get better quality, less greasy and fat food, while not putting on as much weight. I hate it when I have to go to McDonalds. Curse Them!!! Even burgerking has less fat foods then McDonalds too, but McDonalds is probably the most economically enhancing restaraunt in the world. I really think McDonalds should be revomed, because I almost hate McDonalds as much as Mexicans!(sorry if I happen to offend anyone. they're probably just coming here to get fat anyways, lol!)
