I'm surpriesed no one has posted a topic about thisbut anyway, back on topic...
What are your thought's on obescety (please, someone correct my spelling)? In all honesty I don't see how to get fat. I've actually tried to get fatter, but I guess all the running I do makes me naturally skinny. Do you think too many people in the US are becoming fat? In my opinion, I'd say yes, but feel free to share your thoughts.
fat people need to get skinny.. seriously and jokingly.. they are a harm to themselves and to others.. the consume too much food, and when they get hurt/sick its VERY hard to treat them because if they are over a certain limit they can not get certain tests done, x-ray, mri, ct, pet, etc..
One interesting fact that I recently found out from http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2008-09/ul-iwi090408.php is that some studies suggest that increasing intellectual work causes increased calorie consumption. I would say that an increasing intellectual work done through schools (even though USAs schools still lack compared to other country's, they're more advanced than they were 50 years ago no debate on that) may have contributed slightly to obesity rates.
The biggest cause, though, would just be the availability of food in combination with capitalism. Capitalism works to be able to meet consumer needs, and consumers wanted to feel full at the end of meals so businesses gave those larger portions. Then with the rise of fast food and and spread of restaurants, eating out came to be a convenience that far too many have taken advantage of.
With these cries against obesity, many restaurants have added "health" sections onto their meals plans, while still keeping the "filling" on the menu for those who want it. The problem probably won't be fixed immediately, but it will be alleviated with all this public awareness going on about the topic.
I live in El Paso. Do you want to ride your bike everywhere in the desert? Neither do I.
Where I live, it is often 100+ degrees in the summer. It was 101 today. But that doesn't stop me from riding my bike ;-) Sounds more like an excuse to me. If you want to do it, you will. If you want to make excuses for it, you won't.
Not only is the population getting more overweight, but it's mainly occurring in the low salary end. Nowadays fast food, and unhealthy generic brand foods are much cheaper than healthy alternatives. And for the poor people who work a few jobs with little down time fast food is easier, quicker, and cheaper to buy for your family versus spending more money and standing in the kitchen preparing a meal after a long day of working.
I can't entirely agree with that though. You can get some good food for cheaper, and choose healthier options when you eat out. Sure, it takes more effort, but if you put that extra effort in, you can still be healthy without paying a whole lot. There is a fruit stand that we found near where I live, and they sell stuff for dirt cheap, and it is way better quality than the supermarket. If poor college students can afford to go and stock up on a bunch of expensive fruits like strawberries and grapes and veggies too for cheap, other people can do it too. They just have to get off their butt and go the extra mile. Sure it isn't convenient, I live across the street from a supermarket. But I know it helps us eating healthy.
Wow. It has nothing to do wiht food. Its all about matablism. I eat like a friggin pig and im not fat.
Yes it does. Most people do not have a metabolism like that, especially after hitting a certain age. Granted, I know a few people who have very fast metabolism even past 20, can't gain weight if they wanted to. But most people aren't this way. Btw... have you had your thyroid checked out? If you can eat that much and not gain weight, it might actually be a problem with hyperthyroidism.

It's not all about metabolism. Metabolism is a big part but the person should learn how to control it. If you have a slow metabolism, work out more or eat smaller portions. Saying, "I am overweight because of my metabolism" is about the same as saying "I am big boned."
