I'm surpriesed no one has posted a topic about thisbut anyway, back on topic...

What are your thought's on obescety (please, someone correct my spelling)? In all honesty I don't see how to get fat. I've actually tried to get fatter, but I guess all the running I do makes me naturally skinny. Do you think too many people in the US are becoming fat? In my opinion, I'd say yes, but feel free to share your thoughts.

People are lazy. It's societiy's fault really. We're (Americans) raised in a world that prides doing nothing. WE sit in front of the television or video games for hours upon hours, we praise techonology that makes our cushy lives even eaiser.

The town I live in, population 50,000 just built a new park near my apartment. I ride my bike down there almost every day. I read, play my guitar or just ride my bike along the riverwalk. The thing is I almost NEVER see anyone else there. It's a nice park. It's summer, beautiful weather and there is no one else at the park. I go at all different hours, morning and night. People just don't go outside anymore.

All the money we spend on diet pills, gym memberships, weightloss plans, it's rediculous. Go outisde and do something. Play tennis, go for a bike ride, a walk, just do something.

Once in college I had a psychology class and we were doing a study on obesity and my dorm advisor had just undergone gastrobypass surgery and I intereviewed her for a project. I asked her if there were new diet guidelines she would have to follow, she said no. I asked if she excercised now, she said no. I asked if she changed any of her habits, and she said no. What a freaking joke. That's horrible. You want to lose weight you do it through eating smarter and burning more calories. It isn't easy, but that's why it's called WORKing out.

It's funny though, the people who go into McDonalds everyday spend loads of cash just on the food -- the tasteless, rubbish, greasy food -- when they could better spend the money joining the YMCA or a gym and getting a personal trainer + nutrionist (which are inexpensive compared to the annual amount spent on McDonalds).

Then again, McD's aren't the only suspect. There's KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, etc. The quick foods to fill your bellies with processed crap. So, Mickey D's shouldn't be the only one to blame.

I'm more conscious about my diet now and avoid all the crap most obese folks feed themselves with. Some people say to me, "hey, are you on a diet or something?" and I just tell them, "No, you idiot, I'm gonna live long enough to fornicate your wife"

Ya, to me, it is the mccrappystuff and not excersising! I mean, I'm in Kansas, and it sickens and makes me sad when I see this HUGE person trying to walk. Its a shake-my-head-sadly-cuz-its-wrong-and-their-fault moment.

How do you know it is their fault? Obesity is also genetic. You could eat just as much as anyone else, and be twice their size. It is metabolism that is different.

Although metabolism is greatly affected by your habits, eating breakfast, frequency of meals, amount of water, weight training, and aerobic exercising all increase metabolism. I dislike it when people who obviously don't take care of themselves hide behind the shield of low metabolism. Some do have genetic disorders, but they often try harder to take care of themselves, so I don't blame them.

The solution to obesity is simple. Make the entrances to Maccy Ds much thinner. This way certain arger gentlemen wont be able to get back in and will therefore lose weight.

Once, I was at a movie, stadium seating, and this very large woman came in, late, and she walked all the way to the top row and sat four chairs away from me. For the next half hour I could barely hear the movie. All I heard was her heavy, heavy breathing and wheezing. Why did she climb all the way to the top? Was it her freaking excercise? Pissed me off.

Obesity is an unfortunate and ever growing epidemic in the United states. As many of the commenters before me said it is contributed to by many factors including the booming fast food economy, the lack of physical activity or even lack activity at work (huge difference between working back in the 80's and sitting in a cubicle of today's world).

The truth is Americans are very sedentary with a culture that is heavily tied into food. We socialize over eating together, going out to eat food, and eating because we not only like the taste but because we enjoy eating. The Oral gratification of eating just to eat is a common thing for emotional support, self esteem and social activity.

One of the greatest things that add to the obesity factor is the change in diet from back then to now. How many of you out there still get a fresh vegetable, real potatoes, fresh raw fruit, milk and not juice or sodas and some kind of meat for your school lunch, work cafeteria or even home prepared dinners?

Really, most obesity can be stopped with EXCERCISE (*gasp* Did he say excercise?) I run Cross Country, and I have yet to see a fat runner. 5 miles a day helps to trim pretty much anyone down. Now, I'll admit, some people have medical problems that make them obese, but most people are just lazy and need, I'm going to say it again, EXERCISE.
