I'm surpriesed no one has posted a topic about thisbut anyway, back on topic...

What are your thought's on obescety (please, someone correct my spelling)? In all honesty I don't see how to get fat. I've actually tried to get fatter, but I guess all the running I do makes me naturally skinny. Do you think too many people in the US are becoming fat? In my opinion, I'd say yes, but feel free to share your thoughts.

I think that parents who allow their children to become obese should be charged with negligence and fined or sent on a correctional course to straighten them out I mean it's actually cruel it damages your health causes eaarlier death and you are wide open to bullying or abuse.

Ya thats true. Also have you noticed that out of the frozen foods, the cheapest ones are the generic brands and the ones that are supposedly healthier are a lot more expensive? The cheap generic brands are a lot worse for you. Nest time you are at the store check out the nutrition facts. And all of the other types of foods that claim they are healthier with no artificial flavorings or fats are more expensive than the others also.

I have noticed that. I wonder why that is. Certainly it doesn't cost more to make food that has less fat and preservatives, right? Maybe they charge more because it's the middle class people who can afford such things that, or, and I don't want to say care but I can't think of a better word, care about their weight.

I agree entirely.

I agree with Joshar04

It is a form of negligence. I think that schools should monitor kids health (not to a crazy extent) but PE teachers should make sure they are meeting requirements with health, and weight, etc. and If not, the parents should have to take a class on how to keep their kids living, eating, and exercising in a healthy way.

Well most of the time(but not all) the parents themselves are overweight and obese so for them it is the norm. I think that when a child reaches a certain weight parents should be fined for each pound.

Just because the parents are overweight does not give them the right to neglect their child's health.

I don't think fining would be a good idea right off the bat because some people are poorer and this would worsen the situation. I think teaching them is a first step, and if there are no improvements, then start things like fining, and eventually punishment, if the situation gets out of hand and the child is very unhealthy.

One of the strangest things i find about obesity is that you arent allowed to say anything to fat people. If you see someone smoking you are allowed to say you should put that out its bad for your health yet if you are in Mcds and you see some massive bloke tucking into 3 big mac meals you cant say you should stop eating as it is bad for your health.

Well, I don't think people should tell strangers not to smoke. If you aren't close to the person, it's none of your freaking business. I think the same should apply for overweight people. If you aren't close to the that person, then it isn't your place to say somethin.g

Well im just saying it is socially acceptable to ask someone to put out their cigarrrette but not to tell an obese person to stop eating, when they are both putting their health at risk.

With cigarrettes you can harm someone elses health, being fat doesn't really affect another person unless you fall on them

Actually, you can affect your health. Think about the heart attacks that could possible occur because you are clogging your arteries.

what I was saying is that saying somethign to a cigarrette smoker is different then saying something to an overweight person because second hand smoke is harmful to evetyone where as a fat person isn't hurting those around them, only themselves.

There are multiple reasons people become overweight.

1) stress - Yes, food is not the only thing that makes you gain weight.
2) fast food - People are on the go more so they rely on fast food to get them through the day.
3) laziness/no exercise - Some are too lazy to work out while others just don't have the time.
4) bigger portions - Especially in restaurants but at home as well.

These are the main reasons that make people overweight.

Now we move on to someone actually becoming obese.

1) depressed - Harassment from others or self can cause the person to become depressed which makes them eat more and work out less.
2) too late - Some people feel it is too late to turn back. They just give up.
3) diets are not fast - People give up on diets since they don't lose weight fast enough.
4) eating lifestyle - Food becomes their lifestyle and they enjoy it.
5) metabolism - If people have a slow metabolism, it is very hard for them to lose weight. Breakfast is the most important meal because it also gets your metabolism going.

Some of you need to realize that just because someone is bigger, that does not mean they eat a ton of food. There are many contributors (mental, physical, and so on) that cause a person to become overweight and possibly obese.

The problem with the world today is everything seems "instant", "auto" or "fast"! They sure do make our world a better and easier place to live in but they require much less effort from the people and hence people barely move and eventually get fatter and fatter.

Dont forget that if you look directly at a fat person you may never be able to look away again as they take up your entire field of vision. I would say that could be a health danger.
