um no it isnt, regardless of its geographical location it is now the Russian Federation. The United Soviet Socialist Republic or Soviet Union included many other countries like East Germany, Ukraine many other Eastern European and Baltic states. Russia actually lost the war in Afghanistan quite spectacularly once the Afghans were given the right weaponry.

Wow, I'm surprised many of you are saying that Russia would win if they were in a war with China. Just looking at the statistics cited by woody_7007 you can see that China has the possibility of a greater army (number wise), more financial backing, a larger labor force, all with less land area to defend. ChopstickBoB has already stated the historical factor of China invading Russia, and the chinese advantage of defending a smaller amount of land with more people. I'll touch on the other aspects of war, especially in this day and age, just like Parsat brought up. But instead of looking at allies or generals, I'm just going to look at the economy of these two countries. Frankly speaking, Russia could not afford a war with China. Just looking at GDP purchasing power parity (citing the CIA World Factbook), China has 7.1 trillion US dollars, while Russia has just 2.1 trillion. Moreover, China's market value of publicly traded shares is at 4.5 trillion Us Dollars, while Russia is only at 1.3 trillion US Dollars. Finally, the "true market value" of the Renminbi yuan (RMB) is not actually known, since estimations of China's internal economy are hazy at best. Russia's economy is clearly known by all countries, and while it has been steadly growing at about 7% per annum, that's no where near China's "double digit economic growth" and stated 400% increase in the past 10 years.
Simply state, if Russia and China were to go at war with each other, all China would have to do is keep the war going long enough where Russia would become stagnate and eventually run out of money.

i do they have over 30 nukes wich means they can blow up all of chinas main places were they manufacture tanks and wepons to bad and then china will be pointless against russia and did you see what russia did to georgia they just blew up evrything they needed and now georgia is helpless same thing gonna happin to china
I think in the end, Russia would win. Simply because i think the U.S. would be dragged in, and we would side with Russia.
Not directly. The US economy is to entagled in China's to directly oppose them. Perhaps with intelligence and strategic satalite resources. The US, along with NATO, would most likely side with whoever was declared war on.

Good point, but they would most likely be able to borrow the money neccesary to keep a war going on indefinately, assuming they are not the aggressors. A declaration of war on China's part would also most likely result in heavy trade sanctions on them, evening up the economic imbalance.
