yal are forgot about 2 country that going to play a major role in the war. the first is Mongolia. Russia is going to need Mongolia if they plan on attacking china, and the same goes to China thay need it to attack as well. Mongolia is going to be a big help to Russia cus that will open all of China to be invade. same goes to China as well it will open a large part of Russia south border. also Mongolia will be the best for both sides as a forward HQ.. the Russia is going to have Mongolia first cus that don't have to cross the Himalayas(like China) to git to Mongolia. China will git Mongolia but it will be vary hard for them.
the 2nd country is Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan will be a large help to china cus that will open the south bolder much more then Mongolia and it will give a fast route to Russia capital. for Russia it not a good place to have if you planing an attack on China.
so who ever controls Kazakhstan and Mongolia will have control in how the war goes.
I would have thought that the strategic importance of Khazakstan would be its oil fields, not as an access route. And Stonester being the largest country in the world geographically doesnt nescessarily mean that you have a good military.
In war, it's not a matter of extermination, it is scaring the enemy into submission. China has such a massive population because Chairman Mao thought that in a nuclear war, the chinese would still have millions of citizens, while others would have thousands(kind of backfired) The Russians are a proud people willing to die for their "Mother Russia" as they proved in World War Two. A war isn't "I haz moar gunz thean joo!!" It is also more then 'moale". there are millions of factors i couldn't possibly name. For the topic's sake, Russia, but for the record, the U.S.A. would get involved, probly helping Russia, and then leading to a horrible world situation.
One more thing, You don't need Mongolia, because we have missles. If things got bad, they were ready to press that big red button and launch a nuke. People are short sighted, and just want violence. That what we are, a war orented animal.
