look at religion over the years starting way back at medieval times the crusades or holy war caused many deaths all in the name of Christianity and that they killed people of other religion (i forgot the religion but i believe it was Muslim)in the name of there god and jumping back to modern times you can even base 9/11 on a religion if you can justify so is it not an honor to die suicide bombing or plane jacking if you can justify that you did it in the name of the Muslim god
so basically im looking for the opinion's of people on armor games do you think religion's worth it? please at least attempt to back up your answer
i personally do not believe that religion is worth it (sorry i know it sounds hippo critical that i cant back mine up but i gave all mine in starting thing?
No war was started due to religion. They just used religion to get people to join the fight.
The Crusades. "Oh they have our holy land, we need to get it back! Oh btw, You'll get a free pass to heaven if you die in the fight!!!" It was nothing but more land and power.
I don't know drace, sure a lot of the reason that they wanted the holy land was because of power, but if it didn't have any significance to religion, would people have really wanted to fight to take it over for so long?
Well Lige, the people were told it was a holy land which belonged to Christians and bla bla bla, but of course, the state wanted it for power. Do you think the church and the king would form a whole large military attack to do something for the good of the people?
I agree with Drace. "Religion" is not exactly this entity you can point to and say "Aha! That's what caused wars!" Being a man-made creation, one could argue that religion doesn't even really exist by our definitions of existence in contemporary (and even classical) metaphysics. People involve themselves in wars, religion does not force itself upon them. And it's very likely that without this institution, people would still find reasons to kill each other.
interesting responses so far i know when ive explained it, it was very vauge so what im basicly trying to say do you think religion is worth it and y or y not?
No religion is not worth it. It has nothing to offer.
Its always been used as a dirty trick by the upper class to hold their power and prevent crimes and more importantly revolts against them.
Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich.
-Naploean Bonaparte, a leader himself.
I suppose now, things are quite different though. I would not say all, bust most most world powers have a separation from the church. We are slowly moving away from it as it is not needed anymore. We can thank the end of feudalism for this.
All religion has done is become a large promoter of anti-intellectualism.
yeah i agree religion hasent done much in the world other then creat fanatics use people to do whatever they wish and it allways as you said been a dirty upper class trick
I should have replaced the word 'it' with 'anything'. What is it that gives religion any values?
You might say that religion promotes peace, but I will argue that it does the opposite. I find it to be an exploitation of the natural human born trait of having self interest, by promising a heaven to a youth. If he does everything God asks, he shall go into this wonderful place. A person's life becomes a game of where they try to do goodness (which in most cases they don't care at all) for this heaven.
Makes people insane in some ways.
But really, I don't think without religion, we'd all be monsters. Opposite maybe. I only have a feeling of this but not much support to back it up. If anyone will help.
I think we need it. It gives people hope, and the will to keep living. Heaven rocks, but if that or any other concept of afterlife doesn't exist, then the alternative sucks. I'll keep believing anyway.
Of course religion seems so unreal or to good to be true. It ultimately offers the religion's followers hope that they will make it to a better place/afterworld/etc. Some relgions don't have that, but there are always perks, or whatever you like to call them, in each religion.
